The workshop discussed the requirements for drafting a suitable constitution for Sudan.
The International Center for Political and Strategic Studies (ICPSS), through its Transition Scenarios Program, organized a workshop that addressed constitutional experiences of countries during transitional periods, as well as Sudan’s own constitutional experiences. The workshop was held today at Marina Hotel in Port Sudan.
The workshop was attended by a number of politicians, legal professionals, experts, and interested participants. Nabil Adeeb, lawyer and legal expert, presented a paper on constitutional experiences in Sudan, offering a historical overview of the Sudanese experience in this field and highlighting its strengths and weaknesses, along with observations from various stakeholders. The sessions were chaired by legal expert and lawyer Yahia Hussein.
Dr. Abdelaziz Nour Ashar, Director of the Center, stated that the workshop addressed issues of constitutional development in the country and reviewed the details and milestones of Sudan’s transitional constitutions throughout history. He emphasized that the issue is important and requires rigorous, scientific handling grounded in previous experiences, including international ones.
Dr. Abdelaziz added that the purpose of such workshops is to move beyond cycles of war and political conflict toward political stability and entry into the realm of sustainable development. He noted that the Center will continue its transition programs and scenarios with the aim of providing scientific solutions to various issues through seminars, in-depth dialogues, and practical workshops.
